Obedient/DisruptWe’ve been trained our whole lives to do two things at school: be obedient and to please adults. That’s really what our education system is all about.'You better be really obedient and do what the teacher tells you to, and bring your homework in on time and study hard for tests, and figure out how to please a bunch of adults in authority, or else…'But success in the real world is the opposite - it’s about being disruptive, it’s about being bold, it’s about being willing to fight for what you believe in.Being disruptive is the opposite of being obedient. Now, you can have a perfectly good little life if you’ve gone to any of the top schools out there but you’re not going to be the dog’s bollocks that you really want to be.Figure out how to really fight for what you believe in.Be willing to be disruptive, be willing to have unpopular ideas, be wiling to take huge risks, and those are things that creatives, artists, actors, anyone really, needs to start thinking about. It’s a real challenge for the educational system. The things we expect our kids to do from the time they’re seven or eight years old until they are out of high school and into college are not necessarily the most valuable tools. The most valuable tools are thinking differently, being disruptive, taking big risks, being bold, being imaginative.Jobs did it with Apple.Branson did it with Virgin. Bezos did it with Amazon. Why can’t we do it!? ...
